Serving the Community for more than 80 years, Mount Zion is steeped in rich history, heritage, and Godly principles. We are a Bible-believing, Christ-centered, community conscious church. In 1923, a delegation of community leaders decided to establish a community church, Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church. The late Reverend Warren Nelson Fields was the first pastor and served for 4 yrs. In 1927, the Reverend Elijah Benton became pastor. Pastor Benton served for 48 yrs and 9 months. In 1977, Reverend Nathaniel Jones became pastor and served until his death in 1992. The Reverend Brehon L. Hall became pastor in 1993 and served for 6 yrs. In 1999, the Reverend Talmadge J. Thomas became pastor and continues in that capacity with many accomplishments.
In 2005, in line with the vision God has given our current pastor, we embrace The City of Zion. Zion being where the Lord resides, the future of our church will look like a city that includes a variety of additions and expansions. We thank God for his constant blessings. We thank God for his sovereignty. It is because of Him that we have a powerful, blessed and anointed ministry of teaching, preaching and praising God. Our daily mission is to “Build the Body of Christ through Prayer, Praise and Preaching”.

About the Scriptures- We believe that the Bible is the inerrant, infallable, life changing, time altering Word of the Living God.

About God- We believe in the Triune nature of God. That God exists in three distinct persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). We believe that Jesus Christ is the second part of the Trinity who became flesh to reveal God to man and to become Savior of the lost world.

About Mankind- We believe that man was created in the image of God to live with God, give to God and glorify God forever, but because of sin became alienated from relationship and cannot get back into right relationship on his own effort.

About Salvation- We believe that through the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the Cross, man is provided opportunity through grace only to be saved from the penalty, presence and power of sin.

About the Christian Life- We believe that every Christian should live for Christ and not for himself. By obedience to the Word and daily yielding to the Holy Spirit, every believer should mature and become conformed to the image of Christ.

About the Church- We believe the church to be the body of Christ which Jesus Christ is the Head. The members are those who trust by faith the finished work of Christ. The purpose of the church is to glorify God through prayer, praise and preaching.

The Pastor is the angel of the church who gives instructions to the body for its effectual and effective building.
